Sugarhouse Construction

Although planning had started last year, we finally had our pad cleared by August, and the crew showed up in September to build our new sugar house. Pretty nerve wracking with the new evaporator, reverse osmosis and everything else equipment wise slated for a November arrival, and tapping most likely in January!!

Building pad preparation

We have no flat areas….After about a week of heavy equipment work, we were getting somewhere!

Construction has started!

Almost a week into it and the guys are flying!

This truss shows the upstairs area that will ultimately be office space. Half of the barn has 13.5 ft ceilings and the other half is 16 ft. It was a breeze doing some custom trusses and design changes with Laurence at Sugar Creek Construction in Penn Yan.

The roof is on!

This is where things got interesting and I gained a lot of respect for those who coordinate construction jobs….multiple contractors doing different things and needing bits done to move forward…everything is on a timeline…who does them? I guess that’s me?!

Putting mesh over the in floor heat pipes in the dark BEFORE our early am cement pour. Had to be…..because I was up after midnight installing the pipes!

Cement trucks started arriving on time at 7:00A… They used a cool conveyor belt that shot the cement right where it needed to be. The floor was poured by 9:00A. 12hrs later and into the night, Justin and the guys from Glover’s Masonry where still working the cement smooth. It was just above freezing so it took a long time curing. Grading for all of the drains made for quite a bit of hand work too.
